The Folklore Tour of Čilipi is perfect for those wishing to experience a taste of Croatia’s past. Located in the picturesque Konavle valley, this small town, badly damaged during the war, has now been restored to its charming and hospitable best.

Here folklore is a way of life and this tour provides the opportunity to experience firsthand Čilipi’s traditional customs and rich heritage. The tour will begin with a welcome drink and a chance to see Čilipi’s beautiful St Nicholas’ church which dominates the main square and dates back to the fifteenth century. Combining cultural, botanical and gastronomic revelations, this tour of the historic town of Ston and the Trsteno Arboretum has something for everyone.

The tour begins with a leisurely stroll through Trsteno’s reknowned arboretum. At over 500 years old and housing more than 300 species of exotic tree and plant life, the arborteum is widely acknowledged as one of the finest gardens in Europe. During the tour you’ll have a chance to take in the magnificent scenery, including the summer manor, pavillion, aquaduct and Baroque fountain and will also be able to view the centrepiece of the arboretum, two ancient Oriental Plane trees. Standing at almost 60m tall, the trees are the only specimens of their kind in Europe and make a wonderful photo opportunity.

After an exploration of the botanical garden, the tour moves to Ston. This historic town is surrounded by a 5km long fortified wall, the second longest in the world after the Great Wall of China, which was originally erected in 1358 to protect the town. Now, over 20 towers still remain and the wall represents an impressive flashback to the past. Your guide will accompany you as you wander around the pretty old town, exploring the churches and varied architecture, before walking around a section of the wall and enjoying the panoramic views.

Having worked up your appetite, your tour then moves on to Ston’s ancient salt pans which are still being worked today after over 2,000 years and, unusually, are home to an oyster farm. Thanks to the unique ecological balance of the area, the farm grows a variety of oyster that have died out elsewhere making these a truly special delicacy. Newly-independent state Montenegro has become another Adriatic destination that is really making a name for itself. A wild land where mountains drop straight into the sea and delightful towns such as Kotor, Budva and Montenegro’s jewel, Sveti Stefan, cling to the coastline on the route south from the border with Croatia.

We enjoyed all of Croatia so much. You made our time in Dubrovnik (and

It’s been a few weeks since we returned back to California (near San Pedro), and I’ve been meaning to email you to thank you again for showing Joey and I around. Our day with you was truly one of our best on many levels – scenic, educational, inspiring! While we enjoyed Dubrovnik, we loved Mlini even more and ended up staying two nights. They were wonderful to us. We also had our best meal of the trip at Konobo Marinero.

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts, curiosity, and hospitality.

Meeting you was the best part of our trip to Croatia! Thank you for showing us such a beautiful part of your country! We will think of you as we enjoy our red wine… next time we’ll go visit Korcula and taste some of that white wine! We really appreciated your picking us up and showing us that beautiful little church in Montenegro and driving us along with the beach areas on the coast. It was pretty and we enjoyed our time at the beach. We also thank you for picking us up in Ploce, taking us to Mostar and arranging that tour for us and the other couple that came along. Lunch was fabulous in both Ston and Bosnia (can’t spell the other half of the name!) It gave us a chance to relax and enjoy your company! When we told people on our cruise about the tours we took with you, they were jealous! I gave your name to 2 people we met, hopefully they will be in touch.

Most of all, we just enjoyed being with you!!! If you ever come to NY, let us know.

Hello! I just got back from vacations and back to reality. I will like to thank you and Florio for the great tour that you gave us when we were in Dubrovnik. We all had a wonderful time.
We had a wonderful time and this was the best tour of the entire cruise.

Thank you for your service and the very nice ride into Dubrovnik. You do a very nice job and I will make sure that every one I know who may come to see your beautiful country will call on you for a Dubrovnik experience. We all talked about how closely you resembled Mathew, and it makes you realize that we really are Croatian. We did not need your services again because family took care of everything after you left us, and we had a great time in your city, but I will call you again, because I will return.
